That’s what minor league baseball players want to hear. And that’s the call I got on October 21 from Danny Coleman, who runs The Dubliner on Capitol Hill. This D.C. institution has been around for more than 51 years now, and is simply legendary. It was the first Irish Pub I ever visited in this town, back when I was 22 and barely knew what Irish music was.
The Dubliner is the only pub in the area with an exclusively Irish lineup, and live music seven nights a week. It’s the absolute gold standard.
Minor league players get called up to “The Show” for two reasons: a permanent spot on a roster, or to cover for an injured player. I’m firmly in the latter category. The last time I played The Dubliner was to fill-in for an injured Conor Malone.
This time it was to fill-in for the injured Brian Gaffney. While I am terribly sorry that he’s under the weather, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to play on this stage again. Thursday and Friday were banger nights, and I’m primed (but still a little hoarse) for a rocking Saturday night.
My schedule (and my aging vocal chords) won’t permit me do a full seven-night run at The Dubliner, but I’m always ready to take the call for another few nights under the lights. Thanks Danny!
